Let's get Maria riding her very own bike!!!
My name is Maria Rose. I'm 5 years old. I started kindergarten this year! I am a beautiful, sweet, gentle soul who loves to be around people and animals. I was born with hydrocephalus, which is water on the brain. That caused some changes in my brain, resulting in several other challenges, like cerebral palsy, and vision and hearing impairment. I'm trying very hard to walk and stand and sit independently, but for now I need a lot of help. I'm trying to learn to communicate because I don't talk yet and I need extra time to process what I see and hear.

One day, when I was at therapy, I tried a 3-wheeled bike. I was strapped in real tight and off we went! It was so exciting--it was like freedom! We walked all over the neighborhood and I sat up real tall so I could see all the trees and flowers and birds. My feet are strapped to the pedals so even though my mom was pushing me and steering, my legs were still moving and I felt like I was steering.

If I could get one of these bikes (I want a pink one with a red bell), then I think my legs will get stronger and it will help me to walk. My back will get stronger and I'll be able to sit up straighter at school. I'll be able to explore the neighborhood with my mom and dad; I can work on seeing and hearing what's going on. And best of all, I look and feel like a normal kid when I'm on this bike.

Thanks for reading about me and if you're able to help my parents get one for me, then imagine me giving you a big hug before I ride off into the sunset!

Love, Maria
